POVERTY IN BOOMTOWN
Guerrilla Tactic 1: June 2008
In June 2008, members of the PBC put out a call for artists/activists to collaborate on a creative spectacle in the middle of downtown Calgary at lunch-hour. The piece of performance art was composed of dance, music, cheerleading, and Greek Tragedy. It rained that day, limiting the audience substantially.

Guerrilla Stampede Intervention
Guerrilla TACTIC 2: July 2008
The Calgary Stampede, which bills itself as The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, is a large festival, exhibition, and rodeo held in Calgary, Alberta for 10 days every summer from early to mid-July, attracting more than 1.2 million visitors. It is one of Canada's largest annual events, and the world's largest outdoor rodeo. On July 12, 2008, the PBC rented a number of mascot costumes and planted themselves at the entrance gates of the Stampede. ‘Peetry the Poverty Panda’ and ‘Dobo the Disparity Dragon’ handed out candy and prizes as well as information about the grave social inequalities that exist in Calgary.

GUERRILLA THEATRE
Guerrilla Tactic 3: January - June 2009
From November 2008 onwards, members of the PBC conducted art workshops at the Mustard Seed shelter. Some of the workshops included theatre and culminated with the creation of short theatrical works which we took to the downtown mall and library. TD Centre Guerrilla: In January, we appropriated a space in the foodcourt of a downtown Calgary mall to sing a song satirizing poverty issues in Calgary. Mall security was rather slow and timid in their reaction. (Pseudo) Library Guerrilla: Over a number of months in the spring of 2009, the PBC was actually invited by Calgary`s central library to startle patrons with sporadic theatrical performances. These included a an angry mob kicking out a `homeless monkey` from the library lobby. These escapades were so successful with some members from the shelter, the PBC invited members to collaborate on their next interventions.
